CSLI's First Ever Underwater Beach Cleanup
On Sunday, August 6th, we called all SCUBA-certified divers to grab their equipment and come clean the beach from below the surface at Centennial Beach in Port Jefferson. Additional volunteers simultaneously participated in a traditional beach cleanup, allowing us to tackle both land and sea.
See our gallery below for photos from the event! We would like to extend our gratitude for the overwhelming support of the community who helped us coordinate and host this event. A special thanks goes out to the Village of Port Jefferson for permission to clean this site and parking fee waivers for participants, the Port Jefferson Yacht Club for permission to use their parking lot, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-06 for providing uniformed patrol to secure our perimeter, the support of the Dive Club and LIDA (Long Island Dive Association), Port Diver for providing free lunch, and of course our cosponsor: Island Diving's Bill Pfeiffer.
